And now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord, my soul to keep,
That if I die before I wake,
erm….how’s the rest of this go again? dern it….

Well it’s nothing too big I guess, just scary for myself. Anyways, this is what happened.
I went to go take out my Taylor (you know, the guitar I totally love), and took it out to play. I start playing it, and I notice some string-buzzing. (Ok, I just realized this may turn somewhat Guitar Techie, so if you don’t understand it, forgive me). So I check the frets and the neck, and I notice that the neck is kinda warped. There was a little (well not so little, it was about 3mm high) ripple in one section that ran diagnally across the neck. So I feel across that and it has the texture sorta like Athelete’s tape, ya know, that same kinda squishy-ness. So as I wonder what that’s all about, the tape comes off, and there’s like a SLICE through my guitar. Strangely it wasn’t just like a crack, but it was more like a clean cut through the neck. Angled just a little bit. At that point I was hysterical. And then it ended. Weird eh?

Ok, Ok, I had another dream last night as well, but I only remember one part of it, lol, and it may seem really weird. I’m an avid fan of Christian Musician Duo, Shane and Shane (www.shanebarnard.com for info). They’re an acoustic duo who lead worship over at Texas A&M’s Breakaway every week, and just all out rock with they’re awesome guitar playing and vocals. Anyways, on a hangout board of fans and stuff (www.stripey.net/shane/), they posted just a few days ago about a picture of Shane Everett and his fiancee being posted really big (a page big picture) in this week’s copy of US Weekly. So, in my dream, the only part I really remember, I was flipping through the magazine and finally turned up on this picture. Although, it was just a small picture (about 5″x5″) and it was in black and white, and it didn’t have his finacee in it….So yes, weird eh? I haven’t seen the picture yet, and I have no idea what his fiancee looks like, so I guess it would be really strange if I did see what the actually picture looks like. Ok, enough weirdness and random stuff…..Later!

Well I finished up two songs tonight. Well…then again, “finished” is a term used lightly. As the bass, electric, drums, etc, parts aren’t done on it yet (as well as the vocals too, doh). The two songs I did tonight were “We Are Hungry” and “Pour Out My Heart.”

Now the neat thing about these two songs are this, I decided to extend them a lil, by doing something for each song. For “We Are Hungry” I had a whole section in the middle for kinda whatever I wanted to sing. May it be for the Chorus1, a few times more, or the Chorus2 (We lift our holy hands up, we want to see You). Then as I was re-listening to it, and tweaking the end, I found that it was the same chords as “Make a Joyful Noise/I Will Not Be Silent” by David Crowder, and I decided to put that in there towards the end, then end with Chorus2. So yes, to make a long story short, I through in the Chorus of “Make a Joyful Noise” into it, for fun, and cuz it fits just really well.

Now for the other song, I noticed it was in a 6/8 beat/measure. Meaning that there’s 6 beats per measure. It’s kind of a swaying thing going on. Anyways, the song has a part that goes “In the safety of this place” with the chords being Am7, G, C. Well it’s the same chords of the one part in “All Who Are Thirsty” where it goes “As deep cries out to deep”, so I kept going on the “In the safety of this place” a gazillion (yes a gazillion..try to figure out how many that is! hah!) times, and then started singing “As deep cries out to deep, as deep cries out to deep, as deep cries out to deep, we sing Come Lord Jesus, Come” ala the chorus of “All Who Are Thirsty”. I played through the rest of that song as well, but I’m not sure if I’ll keep all of that, may just leave part of it (the part of the first time through the chorus).

Yes, so those are my recording woes. It probably took about…an hour and a half (1:30 minutes) to finish all that, as well as work on some editing and double guitar parts on some tracks. But it sounds good…though the beat went off a lil on “Pour Out My Heart/All Who Are Thirsty”. Well until next time, this is Randy, signing off…

Wow, what a busy day yesterday and today. We’re busy doing returns about the whole story, because of Christmas. Whatever didn’t sell, we’re trying to sell back to the company that we ordered it from (which is kinda neat, thought they would just make us store it till next year, lol). Anyways, since I’m now in the music department, I was busy doing a bunch of Christmas returns. We filled up a WHOLE WHOLE big cart, and it was probably atleast 3000 cds that we’re returning to 8 different companies. The biggest return was Avalon’s Christmas album, “Joy”. We’re returning 441 of those CDs. And I had to peel off every single Berean UPC sticker from them. Luckily, by that time, Sandy (one of the Office Associates) gave me a “Scraper” which has a edge that you can peel things off, or scrap them off. Too bad I didn’t have that earlier when I was doing all the rest of the Christmas CDs and my nail started peeling up, EWWW.

A few new worshp CDs are in the store now, but aren’t that great.

I’m wanting to do a few more songs in the next couple of days, probably will be doing “Here I Am to Worship”, as well as “Pour Out My Heart” and ” We Are Hungry”.

I need a program that will find out BPM, or Beats per Minute, so if you know of one, let me know, ASAP! Thanks!

I forgot my devotional back in San Francisco!! argh! It’s really good, and it’s called, “A Godward Life” by John Piper. John Piper is a pastor of a church in Minniapolis, MN, and he speaks for seminars and such (as well as at OneDay 2000, where I got to hear him speak on Boasting Only in the Cross). Anyways, he has a lot of really interesting views on living our Christian lives, and some real paradigm shifts. One of which is this:

God is most glorified in us, when we are most satisfied in Him.

I can’t go into much detail into that, but just thinking about that idea gives me goosebumps! It’s really true that God is glorified in us, when we satisfied living out His purpose for us here on earth. If we’re doing what He’s telling us, He’s the one getting all the glory for it! and it’s great! =)

I almost bought an Avalon u5 over the weekend. Saw one on ebay for about 375$, and I kept bidding with a person till I reached 400$, and I quit. The person got the Avalon u5 for 405$, ahhh well. Maybe next time. =)

The CD project is going well. I have to try and keep on schedule though, which only leaves this last week to do all the guitar recording *sigh* Don’t know how that’s all gonna get done….but I can atleast try. If I’m not talking to you people all that much this week, that’s the reason why.

I’m enjoying my Chet Atkins. I don’t use my Taylor as much as I’d like to anymore, but it’s still a really nice guitar. Think I’ll spend some nice time with it, as we bond and make some beautiful music together for this recording. =)

I’m also starting to work in the Music Dept over at Berean. I was recently moved (well today will be my first day officiall in the music dept). This happened because one of the other people there is retiring. She’s worked there for 27 years or something like that, and that she’s just old now and can’t stand up on her feet all day. So I’m being moved over there from books. I was getting to know the book department really well too. Oh well, I think I like music a lot more anyways. =)

Thinking about buying one of these Franklin Electronic Ebookman from work. We get it at a discount, so it would come out to about 150$ for the 16MB one. Info is at www.franklin.com/ebookman/ Unfortunately, it doesn’t support Palm OS software, so I wouldn’t be able to get all the cool games and such…but it does have the basic PDA features (datebook, address book, to do notes), as well as some new features, like a voice recorder, or the ability to play mp3s on it (though it only has 16MBs of ram! what’s with that! haha). Anyways, I’ll look into that…wish there was a web site that had PDA reviews or something.

Why Hello there. I’m going to try to be posting a lil more this year. Hopefully through it all people will get to know my personality a little better and get to know me, in this weird internet world. Now I’m not really sure of how to do that, I guess just sharing with life experiences and showing my opinion on those kinda things. Well I’ll try to do better in this online journal thing in this year. Lesse how it goes.

The past few weeks have been busy busy busy. I’m currently back and forth between San Francisco and San Jose working and hanging out with church friends. School starts up again Jan 23rd, so it’s not too far away. I also have to start working more on the cd project, which I want to be done by April (let’s see how that goes…have to stick to the schedule….doh!).

I got to talk with Victor from Hope Road, a band from the East Coast about recording (see previous story about a Chet Atkins one member had, hah). Anyways, was just talking with him and he gave me some insights on doing the recording stuff (like the layers, drums should go after guitars, or sometimes first (but dunno how plausible that is right now)). But recording this semester should be really fun. I did some mock vocals the other night, and they worked out really well. It should be very exciting to see the songs grow and come out on a cd in a few months.

Well the recording is nicely on it’s way. I did the guitar tracks for “Our Love is Loud” though it’s not one of the original songs I picked, I do really like the song, and may include it with this AACF CD (if it doesn’t go on there, it definately will go on my own cd, hehehe). I figured out the chords a few nights ago when 722 did it in it’s entirety for their Christmas service.

722’s Christmas service was awesome! my goodness. Never heard Christmas carols sound so good!!! really! If you haven’t listened to it yet, browse by www.722.net and click on the Past Messages. Click on the last one for this “season”.

I bought a web cam two nights ago. It’s not on a lot, unless I’m on yahoo messenger. I don’t really like yahoo messenger, except that it can use a web cam, so I’m hoping that AOL will get their acts together and make something where you can use a web cam sorta how yahoo has it. Maybe they’ll someday browse upon this page and read about it. =)
