Music talk.

Old people are the cause for RIAA and piracy!

It’s true. Don’t believe that dumb news that says “Young People are causing CD’s to go up in price, because they burn everything.” I was at work today, and two ladies were talking amoungst each other when I was checking CD’s for labels. One asked the other if they had heard this certain group or cd before. She said she hadn’t. She said, it’s ok, I’ll burn you a copy. These ladies were like in their mid-30s!! Geez, don’t they make enough money to not burn cds? argh….

For my first journal entry back in almost 2 months, it’s a rant. lol. =P

Where’d I leave off….

So I was gonna talk about guitars, specifically custom guitars. I bought some new CDs from Independent Bands recently, and included in one was a nice 15% off coupon on a custom guitar company. The company is Mayes Guitars and is run by John Mayes, a frequent goer of the Shane Barnard Project Forums (BTW: if you want some people to debate with, THIS IS THE PLACE! lol).
Anyways, John has been making guitars for a while now, and sounds like he makes some pretty good ones. Some of the big names that use his guitar are Matt Odmark and Steve Mason, from Jars of Clay, Andrew Peterson, as well as some cool indies like Koo Chung, and Rob Loomis. The prices are pretty high, but it is a custom guitar. I don’t know how long the wait is on orders right now, but yeah, I calculated everything that I would want, and figured out a price plan that I’ll share with you. =P

$3,400 Base Price
$500 Koa Back & Sides upgrade
$25 Bone Nut
$0 Engelmann Spruce Top (no upcharge)
$0 Parlor Design Shape
$? I-Beam electronics
==================
$3,925 X 15% = $3,336.25 = $834.06 Down Payment

$2,502.19 left to pay @ $150 a month = 16.68 = 17 Months total
Which equals to $5 a day, for about a year and a half.

$5 a day….wonder if I could set up a paypal account and have people send me money through the internet….lol. Just $5 a day will get me a new guitar in a year and a half! (oh wait, and the down payment…) Ahhh, this could take awhile. Oh, and the funny thing was, I emailed John about the price of the guitar and payment options. I mentioned I was thinking about it, since I should get a guitar before I get married (and I can’t buy anymore guitars). He said, “You BETTER get one before you get married, I should know!” hahaha, too funny. =)

Next entry: CD Reviews! New music from IB.com, Koo Chung, Caleb Carruth, Jacob’s Well, and Spur58.

Rebecca St. Smallbone?!?!?

hahaha. I was just checking CMCentral.com (a chrisitan music news site), and someone posted this in their Q&A section:

Q: Where did Rebecca St. James (actual last name “Smallbone”) get her stage name; why did she not use Smallbone?
–Tyler

A: Many artists record under a stage name, and the reasons are usually marketing related, as is the case with Rebecca. I guess the ad wizards (old SNL reference) at Forefront thought “Smallbone” was a bit too different. “St. James” was chosen, in particular, because her late grandfather’s name was James.

I had NO idea that Rebecca St. James’ real last name was Smallbone! geez!!

Now I gotta ask them if Natalie Grant and Amy Grant are really sisters! (as I’ve heard that that is rumored!)

Request for Musicians

hah, well listening to bands like the David Crowder Band and Exit 10, it really wants me to have a band with a set group of musicians to play with. Ones who most of all love to worship, and also have great talent. So yeah, If you’re interested in being part of the Randall Wong Band, let me know, haha. =P

I just downloaded like 20 new mp3s from Thad’s server. Some great stuff. Mostly Exit 10 stuff (Steve Fee and Candi Pearson, who will never be coming out with a CD, atleast not soon….booooo, I love them so much, hah), and stuff from the David Crowder Band from this year’s summer conference at CIY.

Actually I’m listening to the first song, Sing like the Saved, by Exit 10, and it doesn’t sound like Candi…but I could be wrong… Not as soulful….but still could be. alas. I miss her from the 722 broadcasts. =( Ok, it is her, she just did some fun signature stuff, hehe.

————-

Well on a side note I’ll be recording again this winter. Should be fun. Hopefully I’ll be done sometime this year on that cd that I’ve been promising since last year, Who knows though. Tell ya what, I’ll offer you guys here it free by mp3 when it’s done. =P Maybe that’ll satisfy some of ya. =)

Oh geez… Christian music, not really Christian?

Well a few days ago, a couple came up to Teena and myself, asking about that group POD, why we sell them, and if they’re really Christian. We answered them about how they are Christian, and how their songs talk about God, and how often times in concert they talk about God, or thank Him for doing things. Well this couple said all this stuff about POD. That symbol that is on the POD cover (it’s like…3 petals, the Trinity sign), they were saying how that originally came from some occultic stuff, and how it contains 666 in it, so it CAN’T be Christian. Why would POD use that, if it was made up from satanic people. They go on to mention about the CD cover of “Snuff the Punk.”

The say, what’s going on there? is that supposed to be an angel and the devil? Why does the angel have a tatoo? That’s not Godly. Why does the lead singer have tatoos? that’s not Godly. Oh geez…

Then they start talking about the cd cover to “Fundamental Elements of Southtown”

Saying how why are they showing Budda there? And he’s doing the satanic hand symbol. Why is his heart being hung to die? They tell me they got all these questions about most of Christian Rock, how it’s all evil, and how everyone should just read the King James Bible. They told me to read www.Jesus-is-lord.com. So I went there, and looked around, it’s all a bunch of Bible Thumping Theology. I read this article and how they took every nitpick on Christian rock artist (though mostly from the 80s-90s), to go as far as to say how Jars of Clay has said publically they have watched some certain Nirvana music video with children’s baby doll’s with blood hanging on the wall. It’s so stupid. If they ever come upon this page, they’re probably going to tell me I’m going to Hell for saying all this stuff about them, and for forgetting to have a capital “L” in Lord in that previous link.

So yeah, go visit that site for a buncha white bible thumping bigots….
